HIGH WATER is almost here – and now we're in an “October” kind of mood. For the past two years, Rothstein has been cooking up what seems on pace to be his most ambitious project yet while feeding us EPs and loosies along the way.

Those tracks have shown that the Cambridge, MA native has mastered his evolution into an artist who infuses poetic introspection into melodious earworms. In a sea of genre-bending artists who tend to let their melody and production pull the weight of the track, Rothstein's songwriting ability makes him an outlier.

Such is the case on “October,” the haunting first single from HIGH WATER. Over a smoky soundscape predominated by resonant keys, he explores a tumultuous relationship in which he whiles away his days “writing you ballads, losing my balance” and “cleansin' my palette.” He switches harmonies with the dynamism and grace of a polished R&B vet on the 3-and-half-minute track, showing why he's steadily ascended.

“October” is an intriguing introduction to HIGH WATER, which promises to be the kind of deeply personal, resonant music that we've come to expect from Rothstein.
