Essentials: Quality Control

Don’t let some of the mainstream’s sub-par content and craftsmanship get you down, friends. Hip Hop is as alive and well as it ever was, sometimes you just have to be a bit more attentive to find it. It’s every individual fan’s duty to support the artists who’s work warrants the praise. Lets give the real talent a shoutout and spin their records.

NxWorries – “Lyk Dis” (Anderson Paak. & Knxwledge)

Anderson Paak. has been one of the hottest acts of 2016, and it doesn’t look like he has any plans to slow down. Combining forces with stellar producer Knxwledge (credits including To Pimp a Butterly) to create NxWorries. The duo makes magic on Lyk Dis, a cooler-than-cool track with serious west coast flavor. NxWorries is expected to drop a record sometime this year, and it can’t come soon enough.

La Coka Nostra – “Stay True” (produced by Statik Selektah)

La Coka Nostra linked up in 05′, forming a super group long before it was the norm to gather MC’s in gaggles, like it is in the 2010’s. “Stay True,” produced by the legendary Statik Selektah, is gorgeously gritty, each MC coming direct to stamp the song with their take on loss. Lovers of the old school will feel right at home as they contemplate the commentary ILL BILL, Slaine, Danny Boy & DJ Lethal have to offer.

Common feat. Stevie Wonder – “Black America Again”

Common has consistently been a voice for the underserved and abused in the hip-hop community. In his latest music video offering for single “Black America Again,” Common presents the sober reality of police violence in the United States. All those fans moved by Common’s recent appearance on Sway in the Morning will be eager to share this powerful piece of art with their circles. This is the type of material that NEEDS to go viral.

Wale – “Stay Winning” feat Afro B & Sneakbo

Closing us out with some inspiration, Wale brings the positivity in his latest single “Stay Winning.” Wale’s message is clear as day; keep pushing, keep winning, keep living. The beat has a summertime dance kind of feel, with vocals from Afro B and Sneakbo injecting a fair amount of hype to the mix. Ride the high wave of “Stay Winning” into the new Fall season and make the moves that need to be made.
