Cypher League is a community of do-ers dedicated to the preservation and expansion of free thought and free expression. We provide a platform for sharing the art & ideas that shape and influence our generation. We believe cultural evolution can only happen with a broadened outlook and greater scope of consciousness for all of humanity.
Anyone can be a part of Cypher League – they just have to live our lifestyle:
- Be inspired to create your own reality.
- Act on your dreams and not on the expectations of others.
- Never lose touch with the essence of your humanity. We win this life by continuing to play in the face of overwhelming odds. This is what makes us human.
- Meditation and reflection leads to self-discovery, and with self-discovery comes freedom.
- Progression is what art is all about.
Cypher League’s arms include a digital publication and online store, event management, and music production.
Cypher League’s fundamental belief is that when the public is well informed, understanding the full story, it demands the kind of change necessary to advances the human race. Our goal is to help educate the the largest, most diverse, and most technologically driven generation ever: the millennials.
Big media’s current shift towards digital content and social media is driven by our generation’s appetite. While the majority of news is still dictated by dated and dogmatic corporations, Cypher League is a publication of the times, staffed with young, fresh perspectives. Led by Editor-in-Chief Ben Toren, Cypherleague.com is plugged into the most diverse artistic community in New York City: the hip-hop community. We cover hip-hop’s rising stars in New York’s five boroughs while broadening the scope to encompass the greater cultural and social movements taking root.
Cypher League frequently hosts events in New York City’s venues and galleries. Our events are a celebration of urban culture, primarily showcasing hip-hop emcees and DJs while coupling our concerts with live art demonstrations and installations. Attendees are artistic, experience-driven individuals, aging from 18-30 years-old.
Though we specialize in the New York City event scene, we’ve held events at universities in the Northeast as well as Washington D.C., Boston and Chicago. Out of the 25+ events we’ve hosted in the last two years, we are particularly proud of two held recently. In April 2014 we hosted a six-artist line-up at the renowned SOB’s. In August 2014 Cypher League hosted the inaugural Brooklyn Renaissance Festival. The Festival, sponsored by Vitaminwater among others, boasted over 25 musical and artistic acts and attracted 800 people. The first festival was covered online by a variety of websites (including CMJ), and we intend for BRF 2015 to be even more impactful.
Our offices boast a professional-grade recording studio where Cypher League’s compilation album [releasing Winter ‘14] and Nicholas Hunt’s EP were created. The studio allows us to better facilitate musical collaboration in New York’s hip-hop scene.
